Why You Need to do Cardio Exercises

Cardio or Cardiovascular exercise is probably one of the most important physical activity to do regularly. It refers to any activity that increases the heart rate and respiration while using large muscle groups repetitively and rhythmically. If you want to be healthy, you need to do cardio because it helps keep your heart healthy and manage your weight.

Here are some cardio exercises you can do even on your own:

  1. Walking – Walking is suitable for people who are just getting into a fitness routine. It can also serve as a good activity for recovery days of those who usually do intense workouts. The key to a good workout while walking is to walk fast enough that you break a sweat and feel a little winded. One good thing about walking is that you can almost walk anywhere – either outdoors or indoors.
  2. Running/Jogging – Running and jogging are both weight-bearing activities which mean you work against gravity and as a result, you strengthen your bones and prevent osteoporosis. To progress from walking to running, alternate a couple minutes of running with a couple minutes of walking. Continue to increase the time you spend running, until you can run for the whole time.
  3. Cycling – Sitting on a bike lessens the weight that is carried by the legs which made cycling a good choice for people with knee pains. Whether you like to pedal outdoors or inside on a stationary bike, you’ll build muscle in your legs and glutes, as well as your abdominal, arm and shoulder muscles.

Other Activities

There are hundreds of activities that count as cardio. Even things you wouldn’t think of count as cardio. The secret is to do it vigorously enough to get your heart rate up and make you sweat.

So what are you waiting for? Get up and make your heart pump fast and shed that extra weight and start living healthier!
